Catherine Perry: I am 21 years old currently studying journalism and international relations at Pennsylvania State University in the United States. I currently cheer on the competitive cheer team at Penn State. A little bit of history; I was a competitive gymnast for 9 years. I qualified for Women’s National TOPs (Talent Opportunity Program) at the age of 10 years old. I then qualified for Women’s TOPs A team which consisted of the top 50 highest scores in the United States. From there went on to qualify as a junior Elite gymnast at the age of 12. I trained at the U.S. National Gymnastics training center in Houston, Texas with coaches Marta and Bela Karolyi who are the Women’s Gymnastics National team coaches. I was homeschooled for the majority of my childhood to train upwards of 45 hours a week in hopes of qualifying for the Olympic team one day. I competed as a level 10 gymnast across the country until the age of 14. After gymnastics I immediately started cheerleading at Valley Elite All-stars in Easton, Pennsylvania. I also started coaching at the age of 15 doing tumbling classes and half-year prep teams in the youth division. In 2012, I tried out for World Cup Shooting Stars. I was a Shooting Star from 2012 to 2014 winning, UCA international championship, Cheersport Nationals, One-Up Nationals, Champions League national championship, The Majors, and a Bronze and Silver World Championship Medalist. I coached Valley Elite’s youth level 2 team in 2014 who made their way to the Summit National Championship event in Orlando, Florida placing 8th in the country. In the summer of 2014 I traveled with World Cup to Chile, South America for World Cup training camp which consisted of coaching athletes and helping coaching with dancing, tumbling, and stunting levels 1 through 5. After graduating out of World Cup I had the opportunity to coach at World Cup Phoenix. I helped run the rising stars tumbling program with Lynn Perry, coached Mini level 1, Youth level 2, and tumbled levels one through four within the gym. I spent my free time helping other teams and learning as much as I could about cheerleading. Cheerleading is much more than a sport to me, it is family, it is my passion and I have been fortunate enough to train with and learn from some of the best coaches and gyms in
the industry. I am looking forward to sharing my knowledge and continuing this journey at my new home at Twisters Cheer Elite.
